Mindfulness Training
Mindfulness is a secular practice that is defined as paying attention, in the present moment, in a particular way, intentionally and non-judgmentally.
Mindfulness helps those who practice it to become more focused, relaxed, happier, and appreciative. It has helped many individuals and families to better manage anger and improve communication.
I began my own mindfulness practice in 2001. I have studied with a variety of different teachers nationally, most notably a residential 10-week experience lead by Zen master, and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Thich Nhat Hanh. In addition I have a certificate from the mindful schools program and training in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy..
Over the years I have taught mindfulness in multiple venues including small neighborhood based mindfulness groups, as a teacher in a Montessori preschool program, in my private practice with teens and adults, and in groups for young adult men. In addition, I have presented at local and national conferences and teaching institutions on how practicing mindfulness can help men to develop comfort and skills in emotional connection and intimacy.

Non-Effort Meditation: Non-effort meditation is a practice that I developed inspired by several different techniques that I’ve been introduced to over the years. Full disclosure, it does take some effort to achieve non-effort. That said it’s a great practice to unhinged some of the default tendencies we have to hold stress in our body and mind. While letting go of effort may be uncomfortable at moments, overall, I found it to be recharging and helpful in moving through situations where I previously felt anxious or avoidant.
